About this programme

The Finance & Control programme involves a lot project work. You do not only need a fundamental knowledge and understanding of finance, but also the skills and training to apply your expertise to practical problems out in the real world. Therefore, as one of your assignments in the second year, you will join a real organisation as part of a group of financial advisors.

International developments along with rapid changes in society, technology and the economy create a need for proactive, future-oriented finance professionals. The programme will train you to be aware of international dynamics and take cultural differences into consideration when making decisions.

The four year bachelor's programme International Finance & Control will prepare you for a career as a finance professional in the international workplace. If this sounds good to you, then don't hesitate: International Finance & Control is the right programme for you!

Necessities

In the Accountancy, Finance & Control and Finance, Tax and Advice programmes, the requirements for a laptop are a Windows operating system. No Apple.

In our education we use digital learning tools and systems. For example, you will learn to deal with accounting systems. These digital accounting systems are not compatible with Apple computers. We therefore recommend that you do not opt for an Apple PC.

Course overview

First year

The first year gives you the financial and economic basis that you will need for all of our courses. You will also improve your skills in presenting, reporting and English. The first year is divided into four periods. Each period consist of two theoretical courses and a practical project. During the project you will work in a group and use the scrum project method to work on a case together. The major advantage of this is that you immediately apply theory to practice and you learn to work in a team.
In order to progress to the second year, you need to acquire a sufficient number of European Credits (ECTS) in your first year. lf you do not have enough credits, you will receive a negative Binding Study Advice (BSA), meaning you will not be allowed to continue your degree programme. In the academic year 2021-2022, the required number of credits is 45 ECTS. For the academic year 2022-2023, the number has yet to be decided.

Second Year

During the second year you will learn, among other things, that information provision and business economics cannot exist without each other. You will make an annual planning for a company's goods and cash flows and will learn how to prepare an annual account, corporate tax and liquidity management. During the second year projects, you will work on cases for real companies.

Third year

During the third year, you will first study abroad at one of our partner universities. Afterwards you will do an internship at an internationally-oriented organisation in the Netherlands or abroad.

Fourth year

The fourth year will start with courses related to business control, financial accounting and business strategy and risk. The second semester you will prove that you have become an expert in international finance and you will write your thesis. This is a graduation research assignment from an international perspective related to Finance & Control.

Reaching Hanze UAS
In the next few years, the traffic to Groningen and in the city itself will encounter disturbances due to various large construction projects, which could have an impact on the accessibility of Hanze UAS, on the Campus as well as the inner city. Please take into consideration that you might encounter extra traveling time due to traffic jams and less available parking space. 'Hanze Bereikbaar' aims at preventing disturbances as much as possible and informs students, employees and visitors as thoroughly as possible and helps them find alternatives.
